Costume Making
Among the wide range of entries this year there will be school, youth and other community groups that have been making costumes in workshops led by local people trained by professional carnival artists. We are committed to creating opportunities for any member of the community to enjoy making costumes and taking part in the Carnival.

Workshops are the way we have been increasing participation in Carnival in Devizes. Most of the workshops have been for Carnival costume making but we have also run courses in Samba drumming, dance for Carnival and circus skills, such as stiltwalking.
There will be more training opportunities next year. We want Devizes to become a centre for Carnival in Wiltshire where lots of people have acquired the skills to run their own Carnival workshops (mas camps) and make fabulous costumes, in schools and youth and community groups of all kinds. It's all taking off - we now have lots of enthusiastic new Carnivalists! We are even being contacted by other local Carnivals to see how it's done!
